IPL (Laser Hair Removal) - FAQs

IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses high-intensity pulses of light to target various skin concerns. It is commonly used for hair removal, as well as to minimise the appearance of sun spots, freckles, acne scars, and vascular lesions. During the treatment, a handheld device emits controlled flashes of light onto the skin, which is absorbed by specific pigments or cells, resulting in their destruction or gradual fading. IPL is considered a safe and effective option for achieving smoother, more evenly toned skin without the need for surgery or downtime. However, multiple sessions are required for optimal results.

How does IPL hair removal work and can it effectively remove light hairs?

IPL hair removal works by using high intensity flashes of light to target the chromophore melanin in the hair pigment. This light is absorbed by the melanin and converted to heat, which destroys the surrounding blood vessels and inhibits hair growth. However, Adéna, a unique IPL device, does not solely rely on hair pigment to absorb the light energy. It directly targets the blood vessels, allowing it to effectively treat hair shades that are not rich in melanin, such as blonde, grey, white, and red hairs. This makes Adéna a suitable option for removing light hairs.

Can IPL be used for facial rejuvenation?

Yes, IPL can be used for facial rejuvenation. By emitting high intensity flashes of light, IPL technology can target various skin concerns, such as fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and uneven skin tone. The light energy is absorbed by the targeted areas, stimulating collagen production and promoting skin cell renewal. This results in smoother, more youthful-looking skin. Adéna, in particular, is designed for customised treatments according to hair color, texture, and body location, making it suitable for facial rejuvenation as well.

What is square pulse light (SPL) hair reduction?

Patented in France and invented by doctors and scientists this advanced and computerised salon device filters out harmful ultraviolet light and infrared wavelengths ensur- ing a safe progressive hair removal system. When IPL is combined with our large spot size, treatments are fast, safe, virtually painless and cheaper than waxing.

So what makes Adéna different? How does it work?

During traditional IPL hair removal procedures, the energy from high intensity flashes of light is absorbed by the chromophore melanin, which is responsible for hair pigment or colour. Dark hair, which is rich in melanin, readily absorbs this light and transfers it as heat into the surrounding capillaries, which supply blood to growing hairs. When the blood vessels are destroyed in high temperatures, additional hair growth is prohibited. Adéna is unique in that it does not rely on the hair pigment to absorb the light energy, meaning it can effectively target those hair shades not so rich in melanin. Instead, with a special treatment applicator Adéna targets the blood vessels directly, preventing the growth of blonde, grey, white and red hairs

How many sessions are required?

The Adéna™ can only treat hairs in the growth phase. Approximately 20% of all hairs are in their growth phase at any one time. Certain 'resting' hairs can also become active due to age and hormonal modifications. Other factors include hair colour and thickness. Everyone is different and several sessions may be needed. After that, only one or two annual maintenance sessions are recommended.

Does it give permanent results?

Yes! Most hair will not grow back at all whilst other hair may grow back thinner and lighter. The Adéna™ is the hair management system preferred by over 2000 salons and clinics worldwide. It is virtually painless and provides lifetime results. You will wonder why you waited so long!

What areas and skin types can be treated?

Any areas of the face and body can be treated with pulse light. The darker the hair the richer in melanin and the better the result. The Adéna ™ Plus is the only machine in the world that also removes fine, white, blonde, grey and red hair.

Does it hurt?

For most people there is virtually no pain. The feeling of the treatment is extremely variable from one person to another, it depends on the concentration of melanin in the skin and the size and density of the hair.

What should I expect after treatment?

In most cases, there are no visible effects. Therefore the treatment does not interfere with normal activities. Redness could appear on the skin indicating successful treatment. Hair is detached from its nourishment but it still remains in its sheath during the renewal of the epidermis (peeling). A light exfoliation 10 to 15 days after the session can speed up the rate at which the hair falls out. After 3 IPL hair removal treatments After 6 IPL hair removal treatments.
